Tour Overview

You will visit the major sites of the Great Rift Valley with its lakes and its wilderness area. Then you will join the beautiful Omo Valley.

The Omo Valley is home to many of the most of the well preserved tribal groups in Africa.

You will observe many tribes with different traditions and ways of life : Mursi, Konso, Hamer, Benna, Karo, Erbore, Bumi, Omorate, Tsemay, Ari…who have preserved intact their culture and old customs.

You will visit villages and local markets which are meeting places for people from different ethnic groups and from mile around.

You will also observe sceneries, beautiful nature and endemic animals in the Bale Mountains.

The tour will continue until Harar (East part of Ethiopia) known as one of Islam’s holiest centre. On the way, you will visit Awash National Park well known for its wildlife in eastern Ethiopia.

Day by day

Day 1. Addis Ababa – Woliso (B-L-D)

Drive Addis Ababa-Woliso (120 km). On the way, visit magnificent Crater Lake Wonchi (46 km from Woliso): located South of Ambo at 3 220m.

Day 2. Woliso – Langano – Yirga Alem (B-L-D)

Drive Woliso-Butagira-Langano- Yirga Alem (530 km). On the way, visit Tiya Stele, lake Shetan, lake Ziway and Yirga Alem.

Day 3. Yirga Alem – Konso (B-L-D)

Drive Yirga Alem-Yabello-Konso. (450 km). On the way, many stops for visits of village and markets if possible.

Day 4.  Konso – Jinka – Turmi (B-L-D)

Morning drive Konso to Jinka-Turmi (420km). On the way, visit Mursi tribes, Ari tribes and villages.

Day 5. Turmi (B-L-D)

Morning day excursion from Turmi to Omo-Rate visit Dessanech tribes (150 km drive & back). Afternoon, visit Hamer villages and if possible “Bull jumping” ceremony.

Day 6. Turmi – Arbaminch (B-L-D)

Drive Turmi to Arbaminch (295 km). On the way, visit Erbore tribes, Konso village and visit boat trip on Lake Chamo.

Day 7. Arbaminch – Awasa (B-L-D)

Drive Arbaminch to Awasa (305 km). On the way, visit Dorze village, lake Chitu and after drive to Awasa.

Day 8. Awasa – Bale Mountains (B-L-D)

Drive Awasa to Bale (235 km). Visit Bale Mountains: short trekking (2-3 h) to discover Disho National Park and his endemic animals.

Day 9. Bale Mountains (B-L-D)

Morning, visit Sente Moutains in which is located Abyssinian fox. Afternoon, 3 hours trekking in Bale National Park.

Day 10. Bale Mountains  – Awash National Park (B-L-D)

Drive Bale Mountains to Awash National Park (395 km). Morning visit Sente Moutains in which is located Abyssinian fox. Afternoon, drive to Awash National Park.

Day 11. Awash – Harar – Dire Dawa (B-L-D)

Drive Awash-Harar-Dire Dawa. Morning game drive in Awash National Park. In the evening, visit hyena place. You will appreciate a little show organized by the famous hyena men of Harrar. Drive back to Dire Dawa for the night.

Day 12. Dire Dawa – Harar (B-L-D)

Drive back to Harar. Very early the morning, visit the famous chat market “Aweday” and after arrival in Harar, visits of Harar (city tour, Rimbaud House, Jugol, view on the town, museums…). Drive back to Dire Dawa for the night.

Day 13. Dire Dawa – Addis Ababa (B-L-D)

Drive or Flight back to Addis Ababa. If possible city tour of Addis Ababa. In the evening traditional farewell-dinner with presentations of traditional dances.
End of the tour. Departure.
